Monthly Nature Themes Preview

Sand Sift

Children become nature detectives, using their senses and simple tools to explore the secrets hidden in the sand. Children will sift, sort, and classify sand by size, weight, and sound, learning about its textures and properties. This hands-on, sensory-rich experience nurtures early science and math skills in a playful and engaging way.

Sand Music

Children will create musical instruments like coconut shell shakers using grains of different sizes collected from sand. They will experiment with sounds, rhythm, and volume by shaking their handmade instruments. This playful and sensory-rich activity develops early music, science, and language skills.

Sand Engineer

Children build with sand, exploring structures, shapes, and designs. They’ll explore what makes a structure strong, compare sizes using sticks and rope, and describe their designs using shape vocabulary. This activity develops early math, science, and design thinking skills while encouraging teamwork, problem-solving, and creativity.

Sand Patterns

Children will design and create sand pendulums to explore how swinging motions create unique patterns in the sand. They’ll experiment with different lengths, speeds, and amounts of sand to observe changes in shapes and designs. This activity nurtures creativity, early science understanding, and math skills in a playful, sensory-rich environment.

Beach Shelter - Animal Shelter

Children go on a guided nature walk to explore animal-made shelters - nests in trees, burrows in sand, shells on shore, and coral hideouts in shallow water. They will observe, discuss, and draw these homes, discovering how animals use natural materials for shelter, camouflage, and safety. This immersive experience fosters empathy, observation, and early science inquiry.

Beach Shelter - Sticks and Knots

Children become young builders as they explore how to create structures using only sticks, rope, and imagination. They will learn to tie simple knots and work together to build triangle and square-shaped shelter frames using natural materials found on the beach. Through trial and error, they’ll discover the secrets of strength, balance, and teamwork - learning to problem-solve.

Beach Shelter - Hammer and Nail

Children transform into mini-makers as they learn to use real tools to safely join shelter parts using pre-drilled wood or palm midribs. They’ll practice fine motor skills and learn to work with tools safely, measuring dimensions and aligning parts to construct a basic structure. With tape measures, string, and their own feet as units, they’ll estimate and compare lengths, height, and width—integrating measurement into meaningful action.

Beach Shelter - Palm Roof

Children explore the properties of palm leaves and other natural materials to test their use for shade and wind protection. Through hands-on experiments and creative construction, children build and decorate the roofs of their shelters. They observe how light filters through leaves, feel the wind flow, and discover how materials can offer comfort and protection in island life.

Fish Finders

Children observe reef fish in the lagoon and learn to recognise them by shape, colour, and movement. Through simple sorting and matching tasks, they notice patterns in how fish behave and where they live. This activity develops early classification, observation, and pattern-recognition skills.

Coral Garden Keepers

Children explore different coral shapes and textures and learn how corals act as homes for reef animals. They compare sizes and forms, sketch simple coral structures, and observe how each type supports life on the reef. This activity strengthens early ecological understanding, comparison skills, and careful observation.

Ocean Sound Detectives

Children listen closely to beach and underwater sounds — waves, crabs, fish crackles, and wind — and identify differences in volume, rhythm, and direction. They create simple sound maps to record what they hear. This activity supports early listening skills, sensory awareness, and basic sound science.

Edhuru Veshi is built on the Moodhu Filaa principles: Discover, Love, Wonder, and Wander. We believe that immersive, child-led exploration in nature is fundamental to healthy development. Our program blends this adventurous, sensory-rich learning with key areas of the Maldives Foundation Stage Curriculum, cultivating environmental awareness, resilience, and a lifelong sense of wonder.

The program is specifically designed for children aged 5 to 7 years old.

Our base is Veshige Nature House on Villingili Island. The ferry journey from Malé is an integral part of the school day, with pickup and drop-off at the Villingili Ferry Terminal on the Malé side.

Sessions are held on Fridays and Saturdays from 7:45 AM to 11:45 AM.

Our team welcomes children at the Villingili Ferry Terminal (Malé side) between 7:45-7:55 AM. The group takes the 8:00 AM ferry together, engaging in nature observation during the short journey. The return ferry departs Villingili at 11:30 AM, with pick-up at the Malé terminal by 11:45 AM. The ferry fare is included in the program fee.

Registration is a three-step process:

1. Complete the online registration form.

2. Schedule a Discovery Meeting with our team

3. Finalize enrollment by paying the registration fee, gaining access to the Parent Portal, and receiving our detailed Parent Guide.

Yes! We offer a Trial Session for MVR 600 for a one weekend session. This allows your child to experience the program firsthand. Availability is subject to scheduling.

Children will spend most of the time outside. However, our base is Veshige Nature House, where amenities, including the washroom, are located and where circle time and safety briefings are held.

No. Each child must bring their own litterless, healthy snack and a refillable water bottle. We promote environmental responsibility and ask that all packaging be taken home.

Minor injuries are treated on-site by our first-aid trained staff. We carry a comprehensive first-aid kit. Parents will be notified of the incident and our care response at pick-up, or immediately for anything more serious. We view minor bumps as opportunities for building resilience with gentle guidance.

Yes. As we are surrounded by the ocean in the Maldives, we believe a safe, respectful, and joyful connection to the beach and sea is a vital part of childhood and island life. Ocean-based activities, such as exploring the shore, wading in shallow lagoons, and introductory snorkeling, are integrated into our monthly themes (e.g., "Mini Marine Biologist"). Crucially, you will always be informed ahead of time whenever a session is planned to include swimming or intentional ocean time, so you can ensure your child comes prepared with swimwear and a towel. All such activities are designed with the highest safety standards, conducted in safe, designated, shallow areas under the direct supervision of our team, which includes certified lifeguards and marine educators. Participation is always gradual, voluntary, and tailored to each child’s comfort level.

Knowing how to swim is not a requirement to join Edhuru Veshi. A core part of our philosophy is to gently and safely make the ocean a familiar and positive part of a child's life, which naturally fosters water confidence and foundational swimming skills over time.

For any activity involving water (which you will be notified about in advance):

Safe Designated Areas: Activities are conducted only in safe, clearly marked zones to ensure children explore within a secure and supervised environment.

Trained Personnel & Equipment: A certified lifeguard or first-aid trained staff member actively supervises all activities, with safety equipment like a kayak and flotation devices always at reach.

Pre-Activity Safety Briefing: Session begins with a clear safety briefing for children.

Child-Led Pace: We never force participation. Children are encouraged to explore at their own comfort level, building trust and familiarity step-by-step.

Our goal is to nurture capable, confident, and safe young ocean stewards.

Safety is our highest priority. Our measures include:

High Supervision Ratios: minimum 1 adult for every 5 children

Ferry Safety: Team members take window seats, children sit together as a group, and a team member supervises the entire row.

Secure Pick-Up: Documentation at drop-off and a strict policy against releasing children to unauthorized adults.

Emergency Preparedness: A first aid and emergency backpack is carried at all times.

Ocean Safety: All water activities are conducted in designated areas under the close supervision of a certified lifeguard, with safety equipment readily accessible.

You can always reach us during session hours by calling 7661060.

Please email all detailed information regarding allergies or updates to emergency phone numbers to school@nature.mv

Parents are welcome to separately travel to Vilingili and visit Veshige Nature House when an activity is not happening inside.

Please note that during the scheduled sessions, the program is designed as a drop-off experience to allow children to engage independently in their guided explorations. For the safety, security, and program integrity of the group, parents are kindly asked not to join the activities themselves.

Rainy Weather: The classes will run rain or shine. We will adjust planned activities according to weather

Dangerous Weather: In the event of severe or dangerous weather, we will cancel the session and notify you via message at least 30 minutes before the session start time.
