Introduction to traditional Boduberu, its history, and basic hama/beats

This is a session designed to introduce kids to traditional Boduberu, its history, and basic hama/beats. It is an interactive two-day session where children will learn to play the basic beats through practical exercises, leading to a performance of a traditional Boduberu song on day two. The session is conducted by Azze, who has many years of experience researching and playing traditional Boduberu.

Day 1
- Learn about the materials that make the beru - traditionally coconut wood and goatskin - and how the drum is crafted.
- Brief introduction to the history of traditional Boduberu.
- Learning and practicing the basic structure of the basic Boduberu Hama/Beat - Developing hand-eye coordination and a sense of timing in the process
- Practicing the 3 basic Hama/Beats (refresher)
- Learning to play together in sync with the Hama/Beat
- Practicing a Traditional Boduberu song
- Performing Traditional Boduberu song together - gaining collaborative skills where kids learn that a great rhythm requires everyone to play their part in sync.
- A backpack your child can comfortably carry (with their belongings inside) Comfortable clothes for messy outdoor play (footwear should be comfortable for walks) Raincoat & rain boots (if rainy)
- Sun protection items you prefer (hat, sunscreen, etc.)
- Insect /Mosquito repellent (please apply before arrival if preferred and a small bottle can be stored in their backpack for the day).
- Appropriate prayer attire (dholhi/mundu/thaakihaa)
