Marine Biology - Intertidal Explorers
Kids explore Villingili futtaru tidepools, learn zonation, and run real mini-surveys with belt transects like marine biologists in training. See Details for 2 day breakdown.
Kids Pickup/Dropoff from Male’ Ferry Terminal

Day 1
  • focuses on tidepooling at the futtaru side of Villingili, where kids safely explore rocky pools and discover common coastal life (algae, nerites, crabs, starfish) while learning about habitats and intertidal zonation (dry → splash zone → shallow water).
Day 2
  • Day 2 turns the shoreline into a guided challenge. Students complete an Intertidal and Island Bingo card that prompts them to find specific organisms, habitats, and 'beach health clues' (natural and human-made). The Bingo format keeps the session playful while familiarising students with coastal zone wildlife, coastal vegetation, adaptations, and careful observation.
Note
  • Our tidepool sessions are small, structured, and guided by curiosity. Observation is always prioritized, and any handling is brief, supervised, and limited to common species that can safely tolerate it. Animals are returned where they are found, with emphasis on exploration, respect, and care. The goal is to help children find their way back to nature- to feel the textures and smells of the world around them, so they may connect with the living world, and grow into future stewards of the ecosystems that sustain us.
