12 Day Nature Camp
- Gain a greater understanding of the oceans, coral reefs, and marine life.
- Understand how individuals, populations, and marine communities interact with each other and their physical island environments.
- Practice hands-on field research techniques directly on the shoreline and reef slopes.
- Learn about the major global and local threats facing marine environments.
- Convey the importance of empirical scientific research for managing and protecting fragile marine ecosystems.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret field data to present research findings effectively as a team.
- Day 1 | Island Geomorphology: Arrive, settle into the field station, and use Emery leveling rods to map beach slopes and collect baseline sand profiles.
- Day 2 | Scuba Physics: Conduct terrestrial pressure labs to study gas laws, followed by initial PADI scuba equipment and safety skills in the shallow lagoon.
- Day 3 | Lagoon Chemistry: Master precision underwater hovering protocols and test local ground and lagoon water for pH, salinity, and temperature.
- Day 4 | Benthic Mapping: Complete the first open-ocean dive and deploy 30-meter research line-transects to calculate coral reef coverage.
- Day 5 | Intertidal Sampling: Graph species distribution inside PVC quadrats at low tide and practice deeper underwater compass navigation.
- Day 6 | Megafauna Photo-ID: Complete final PADI Open Water certification dives and upload reef shark or manta ray spot patterns into tracking databases.
- Day 7 | Blue Carbon Audits: Measure mangrove trees to calculate active organic carbon storage, followed by a nocturnal shoreline ghost crab study.
- Day 8 | Deep Reef Analysis: Extract water samples directly from the deep outer drop-off to test for dissolved oxygen and nitrate variations.
- Day 9 | Reef Restoration: Apprentice at an active coral nursery to clean frames and study how seabed structural complexity shapes fish diversity.
- Day 10 | Indigenous Navigation: Analyze the hydrodynamics of traditional hull shapes and map celestial pathways using ancestral wayfinding methods.
- Day 11 | Science Colloquium: Collate all 11 days of land and sea environmental datasets into charts and present findings to an academic panel.
- Day 12 | Graduation & Departure: Receive official certificates for field research hours, finalize PADI licenses, pack equipment kits, and depart.
All of our camps are based at Veshige Nature House on Villingili Island (Kaafu Atoll). ,We provide a dedicated pickup and drop-off service right at the Malé Ferry Terminal. Our team will accompany the group on the short, scenic 10-minute ferry ride over to Villingili and back each day.

Every international family receives a physical Welcome Kit, which includes a printed Nature Camps Booklet complete with your full schedule, habitat maps, and emergency contact details. Cancellations made 7 days or more before the camp start date will receive a full refund. For cancellations within 7 days of the camp, we are unable to issue a direct refund, but we will gladly credit your registration fee toward any of our upcoming weekend camps or monthly packages.
Yes! We host dedicated Visiting Programs designed specifically for local and international school groups from abroad. We invite visiting institutions of all ages to explore our local island habitats, marine ecosystems, and living cultural heritage through structured field research, sustainable systems workshops, and collaborative community outreach projects.
Minor injuries are treated on-site by our first-aid trained staff. We carry a comprehensive first-aid kit. Parents will be notified of the incident and our care response at pick-up, or immediately for anything more serious. We view minor bumps as opportunities for building resilience with gentle guidance.
Safety is our highest priority. Our measures include:
High Supervision Ratios: minimum 1 adult for every 5 children
Ferry Safety: Team members take window seats, children sit together as a group, and a team member supervises the entire row.
Secure Pick-Up: Documentation at drop-off and a strict policy against releasing children to unauthorized adults.
Emergency Preparedness: A first aid and emergency backpack is carried at all times.
Ocean Safety: All water activities are conducted in designated areas under the close supervision of a certified lifeguard, with safety equipment readily accessible.

Parents are welcome to separately travel to Vilingili and visit Veshige Nature House when an activity is not happening inside.
Please note that during the scheduled sessions, the program is designed as a drop-off experience to allow children to engage independently in their guided explorations. For the safety, security, and program integrity of the group, parents are kindly asked not to join the activities themselves.
Rainy Weather: The classes will run rain or shine. We will adjust planned activities according to weather
Dangerous Weather: In the event of severe or dangerous weather, we will cancel the session and notify you via message at least 30 minutes before the session start time.
